Who or what is 678customs?

678customs is a one-man-band graphic designer and retro-MTB enthusiast. Aka 'me'...

My name is Regan, I'm a 40-something dad and designer living in South Wales, U.K. with a passion for mountain bikes; particularly vintage, retro and classic bikes from the early 1990s.

You'll find my hobby pages on Instagram and Facebook under the names @retromtbofficial and @678customs - the latter being formed to create a 'brand' for my graphic and art interests mainly involving mountain bikes and customisation projects. 678customs came about following a spell of designing and selling t-shirts and stickers, mainly for friends at first, then sold to a wider collective. 678 is the month and year of my arrival into the world.

I've produced custom logos, web page design. vehicle graphics, crash helmet designs, blog and podcast logos, wall-art, garage banners - I'll have a go at almost anything that involves being creative. I even made a hand-decorated oven-mitt for a friend and customised a wheelie-bin!

I've recently managed to source a bike that I fell in love with as a teenager but could never imagine owning because of its cost and the fact it's an American brand; Yeti Cycles. Upon researching the whole history of the Yeti Cycles company and brand, I set about looking to buy one of the original race team jerseys, to no avail. Yeti Cycles have always been an iconic, race-bred, über-cool brand with an almost cult following that continues to grow for all eras of Yeti bikes - from original 1985 ex-Sweetheart-made bikes and the Californian-built bikes through to contemporary hi-tech carbon trail slayers from Durango, Colorado. Fans of Yeti Cycles could be similarly classed in the same way as followers of other iconic brands that seem to evoke a lifestyle as well as a having a massive following of enthusiasts, like VW campers with hippy-surfer-type-dudes or adventuring travellers being associated with the various types of Transporter van.

So, to get hold of one of these early 90s' Team Yeti race jerseys, I decided to make my own. The first of hopefully many products with a #RetroMTB influence is on sale in the 678customs store now! / RE 14 AUG 2018
